The founding of Life's Path
Life's Path was founded in June, 2010 by Executive Director, Becky Reeser who traveled to Haiti immediately after the earthquake, spending three weeks in Jacmel providing medical care to earthquake victims and by Louis Jacques, Vice President of Haitian Relations, who reached out to help the people in his community after the devastating earthquake left many homeless and without food or water. This is where it all began.....
In April 2010, I received a phone call from Haitian co-founder, Louis Jacques that people in Cyvadier were in dire need of help. Unforeseen fate brought a phone call from a first grade teacher at Hensey School in Washington, IL. The first graders had been following the news and collected money to help families in Haiti who were affected by the devastating earthquake. We determined to hold a food drive that would help families in Cyvadier and allow the children to see how their efforts would make a difference in many lives. After the food drive, as I returned to the comforts of home, I couldn't stop wondering, what will these families do next week? where will they find food? It weighed heavy on my heart and I realized more needed to be done.
The mission became to help families become self sufficient so that they could rely on themselves and each other for support. These families do not need food for one day, they need jobs to sustain a life. I believe in encouraging self reliance rather than dependence to make lifelong changes. Life's Path's mission is to hand up not continually hand out. Changing lives in Haiti has become my passion.....taking a leap of faith, reaching out and loving the families and children that have no hope and nowhere to turn. We offer hope for a brighter future to end the cycle of extreme poverty. It is a privilege to serve alongside the people of Haiti. In the midst of utter poverty, the people of Haiti have taught me about resilience and hope while empowering inspiration to follow one's passion.
The people's voices are silent here. The children and adults truly believe we are sent as an answer to their ongoing prayer for God not to forget them. My efforts will continue to change hearts here, which in turn transforms lives there. For these children, whose future requires not just an education - but survival tactics - I will remain their voice! Please join us and help make a difference.....one life at a time!
